The Parsons Area Community Foundation gave out $304,745.90 in grants to 44 area groups and organizations Thursday.

Since its beginning in 1996, the foundation has granted more than $3 million to area communities to enhance the way of life for area residents. Through the PACF grants, improvements have been made to health, education, parks, recreation, the arts and social services within 25 miles of Parsons.

“We appreciate the donors who are able to give back. We couldn’t do any of this without people who came way before us who have given pretty selflessly to make sure that we have these funds available to give back in our community,” PACF executive director Becky Dantic said.

Those interested in making a contribution to the PACF can visit www.parsonsareacf.org.

Word of the PACF continues to spread to eligible non-profits in the area, so the number of applications continues to grow. As costs increase and needs grow, so do the requests.

“The biggest thing we saw as a change this year, we had more than $750,000 in requests come through this year, so it was an extremely competitive grant cycle this year. We had a lot of requests,” Dantic said. “A lot of need this year.

“It is definitely a difficult decision. That is one thing since I’ve been working here that I am really impressed with is how seriously our board takes that. They do take a lot of time reviewing each one of those applications and talking through it as a board to try to come up with their final decisions. It’s never, never easy choices to make.”

Dantic said it is exciting to see the organizations and the projects they are working on.

She said she is always excited about getting to hand that donated money back to the community and to see how it is going to be put to work — “the benefits and the impact it is going to have on citizens and neighbors.”
