Care Cupboard has matching opportunity

Volunteer Kansas, a sister organization of the Downing Family Foundation, has awarded Care Cupboard Hygiene Pantry with the opportunity for a matching grant. Before July 24, Care Cupboard must raise $8,000 in donations. If that happens, Volunteer Kansas will then award Care Cupboard an additional $8,000 match.

Care Cupboard Hygiene Pantry, 17th and Washington at First Baptist Church, is a ministry devoted to the free distribution of basic hygiene products. The pantry is located in the building behind First Baptist Church. Members of the community support the pantry by donating products or cash donations and volunteering to pack bags, stock shelves and help with distribution on the third Saturday of each month.

Opening in August 2021, Care Cupboard started giving laundry detergent, two bars of soap, toothpaste, shampoo and six rolls of toilet paper to every family that came in. Each family has the opportunity to pick three more items from the following list: adult incontinence products, toothpaste, conditioner, body wash, deodorant, period products, tampons, razors, shaving cream, band-aids, toothbrushes, lotion, pump hand soap, baby diapers, lotion, shampoo, body wash and wipes.

The mission of Care Cupboard is to provide basic hygiene products at no charge to those in need. Anyone who comes to the pantry is served with no application or proof of income. The pantry also opened shower facilities.
